Simon is a Solicitor and one of three founding Partners at Instalaw.

He is the Joint Head of our Prison Law Department, having specialised in this area since 2008.

Simon is highly experienced in advocacy before the Parole Board and the Independent Adjudicator, and is a Prison Law Supervisor for the firm. In addition, he is an accredited police station representative and can therefore undertake police interviews for those in custody.

Simon is frequently instructed by IPP and Life Sentence offenders across England and Wales.

Over the years, he has represented a number of high-profile clients in their respective applications for Parole. This has often been against the backdrop of intense media scrutiny. Furthermore, he deals with a number of complex cases before the Parole Board, representing inmates who suffer with learning and / or psychological difficulties.

As an active member of the Association of Prison Lawyers and a monthly article contributor to the prison newspaper Jail Mail, Simon is passionate about Prison Law and in achieving the best results possible for his clients.

Simon undertakes work in relation to the following prison law matters:

  • Parole Board Oral Hearings
  • Parole Board Paper Reviews
  • Indeterminate Sentence for Public Protection (‘IPP’) inmates
  • Life Sentence inmates
  • Discretionary Life Sentence inmates
  • Pre-Tariff Sift and Pre-Tariff Parole Reviews
